This last weekend we had a full house of friends. My husband has been working on a documentary for the last 3 years and he is finally nearing the end. This weekend he privately screened it with a few friends, including the subject of his documentary.
Jimmy Levan is legend within the BMX community. He lives life like he rides, with passion and speed. He’s sustained over 40 concussions and has flat lined 4 times. He can tell you stories that will either make you laugh until you cry or simply just make you cry. Jimmy has lived more in his short 45 years than most have lived in 100 years. And he is someone that my husband (like many riders) care very much for.
Chris gathered a few of his closest friends as well as my dear friend T this weekend for a private screening. Surrounded by seriously good people celebrating a kind, generous rockstar soul was equal to a feeling you find out in a meadow alone or in a place of worship. Just pure happiness and love.

We all find faith in different spaces and place it in different people. Faith is what you create and hold dear. It is tested, cast aside and reborn multiple times in a life. Jimmy has had his tested to a point I can’t even imagine yet he walks around each day with a smile. Seeing Jimmy this weekend watch a testament to his life, faith in humanity and belief in the ever after brought me strength.
Faith can come in all forms. Sometimes it’s a southern gentleman with a whiskey voice and a kind word that reminds us of why we are here.
Jimmy left today but not before I made him a vegan feast to counter act his diet soda addiction. Lentil loaf with mashed potatoes and veggies. Despite not being able to taste or smell he said it was delicious!
