Today was a good day and a reminder that a simple thing goes a long way. I had a consultation today with a radiologist. She was a tough army veteran doctor with a very matter of fact personality. She also has been a vegetarian for most of her life.
There is a mass of lesions at my L4 vertebrae that is causing a compound fracture to occur. Currently L5 is not effected however the fear is that the stress of the compound fracture along with the cancer could cause the other to collapse. So enter radiation. It will be a localized 2 week treatment. Nothing even remotely like I went through 20 years ago with Hodgkins Lymphoma.
The doctor said I’m the healthiest cancer patient she has ever seen and unlike many was very happy to hear I was on a plant based diet. She was impressed with my markers thus far despite the increase. She pumped me up and told me to stop reading the “shit” on the internet because I was stronger than anything someone else wrote. She then reminded me I could be hit by a Mac truck at anytime. Again very blunt and tough.
Prayers…so very simple yet many of us doubt the effects. The message I got today was proof that prayers can make a difference.

Celebrating the simple things, I made a very simple yet nutritious dinner. Brown rice, beans, corn, salsa and avocado. The guys added chicken to theirs. Delicious, simple and it left more time for T-Rex….
I was waiting upstairs for Evan to come to bed, wondering what was taking him so long. He came back up without the half made T-Rex head…
“Mom, you know what I was doing downstairs?”
“What buddy?”
“I was praying for a cure for cancer and thanking God for today.”
“Oh sweetie”
“You know what Father, Son and Holy Spirit means? It means Let it be so. So we need to trust God Mom.”
Out of the mouth of babes…Let it be so. Appreciate the small things for they carry our whispered prayers.
