F’Cantsr

Life. It simply moves on. You get your diagnosis, people surround you, they disperse, dinner needs to be made, clothes washed, homework done. Life simply doesn’t have time for cancer and that’s as it should be. Life is for the living. And despite having an illness I’m still living.

There are days though where it creeps up unexpectedly. It happened the other night when E wrote me a note that said F cantsr and then asked to shoot a video. Remember that words are simply words and if you are offended by swearing simply don’t watch. Our kid is incredible and as long as he doesn’t hurt anyone with his language the words are simply words. He needs to express his anger at this shitty hand we’ve been dealt and we’d rather he be angry at cancer than at God or us…with that said…

Like I said it creeps up. We don’t spend everyday thinking of f’in cantsr. In fact many weeks it’s non existent in our discussions. But it’s still there. Under the surface. And it bubbles up. We deal. We talk and we move on.

Most days are like this. E drawing chicken buttholes while we hang out on the bike ramp. Most days are spent chatting on the porch about work gossip or bitcoin. Tonight it was a Dale Carnegie book I’m reading (thanks Pierce) and Chris’s technique in expanding the garage. We munched on dinner and enjoyed some wine.

Cancer has made us reevaluate our daily life. I left a job that I did love, with two partners I adored to spend more time at home with my family. I would not have made that choice if I was “healthy”. My appreciation for my husband and child has grown. And honestly we have cancer to thank for that.

As I have said about curse words…they are just words. It’s how you use them that makes them horrible. Diseases are the same. They are simply diseases. It’s how you react to them. And certainty if you are blessed to have no illnesses, don’t wait to get one to appreciate the wonderful things around you. Life is too precious to waste on anger, sadness, pettiness and stress. As Dale Carnegie says… the more you smile the more smiles you will create in the world.
