New Leaf

on

A new year is on the horizon. People are signing memberships to gyms. Some are reaching out to make amends. Others are resolved to kick a bad habit. Here in the Rye house we are vowing to make healthier choices, both physically and mentally.

I’ve been a vegetarian/vegan for the better part of 20 years with a ton of missteps, falling off the wagon episodes and straight up rebellion against the veg. After my markers going up again for no clear reason and my pant size going up for all things beer related I’m once again getting passionate about veggies. This time the family will be along for the ride.

I’m trying not to see 2020 as the year I turn 45 nor the third year in a 5 year prognosis. Instead it’s the year of a new leaf. A really green kale looking leaf. So we are back at it friends. Let’s make healthier choices. Remove toxicity out of your life be it social media, media in general, crappy food, alcohol, or those bucket dumpers in our lives.

Regardless of what the future holds this next year, chemo or new meds, I’m facing it with my husband and son holding my hands and a smile on my face. 2019 didn’t bring us a cure for cancer but I’m still here and that’s a good year in my book.

The tree of life has branches full of leaves and I can’t wait to start turning them over to see what 2020 has in store for us.

  1. I love your comparison to a new leaf being a green leaf of kale. Go kale! I haven’t made kale chips in a while and now am motivated to do so.
