Gabapentin…ever heard of it? Yeah me neither until a few weeks ago. Now I will never forget it In fact I made the hospital put it on my allergy list. Apparently I feel I am allergic to meds that make you feel batshit crazy.
At the beginning of May I made the mistake of telling my doctor that the neuropathy was bad that week. Nothing I couldn’t handle but worse than the week before. Being the caring doc that he is, he recommended Gabapentin. The next day I started it and began the most toxic relationship I’ve ever been in.
I will state that these are my experiences and opinions only. I’m sure not all patients and users of Gabapentin have the same reactions. Although my Gwenna stated it is the drug of Satan so you can be the judge…
By the second day on Gabapentin I felt a decrease in energy and blurred vision. By day 4, I was wearing my glasses and starting to have suicidal thoughts. Those thoughts are non existent for me normally. By day 6, labored breathing and a feeling of my nails being pulled out of my nail beds. Day 8, non stop crying and swollen ankles. I stopped exercising days ago. And the neuropathy? Worse than ever.
Fast forward to the 23rd of May…I’m a crying, depressed, suicidal, ball of constant pain. I email my doctor and say I am flushing these pills. Wednesday was at the hospital. I saw a new nurse practitioner and she co firmed this was all Gaba’s fault. She then said, “I smell lavender. Are you a natural girl?” Yes I am! She winks and then prescribes B12 complex for the neuropathy as well as exercise and massage.
So now I make the trip through withdrawal from Gabapentin. The worst I think is behind us. Chris has been a saint through it all. Dealing with my mood swings and crying. There’s light at the end of this tunnel. I’m just glad I listened to my body and continue to be an advocate for my health.
No Gaba Gaba. You can piss right off!
So awful. I’m so glad you know your body so well. As a fellow natural girl, I’m horrified for you. Super big hugs and welcome back!💕

It puts me right out into a comatose sleep. I’m happy my body doesn’t accept the recommendations of my physicians any yet it’s so important to have a list of side effects and which ones do harm us. I use frankincense in my bath and rub it on my legs and hands too. It helps and NO GABBA GABBA!

I started using that and just ordered other oils to get me back on track. I’m just floored with how far this set me back physically. We have enough to battle without having to fight the meds that are supposed to “make things easier.”

Makes me super tired. Had no idea it was the GABA till I tried quitting it and regained my energy.

It really takes a toll on a person. I’m sure it works for some but the lore stories I hear the scarier it sounds.

I don’t want to take it anymore. The tiredness is severe. I’m so glad it does not have a long life so I can get it out of my system quick. The tiredness in itself is depressing. It makes me almost unable to do anything- even simple daily activities of living.
At fist I thought it was a “wonder pill”. It made me feel much better for a few weeks. But as time went on, it turned me into a zombie. Your post really helped me to see that others have experienced these side effects, too. 👍

Be sure to talk to your dr first. I was only on it for a few weeks and the withdrawal was horrible.
I’m so glad you don’t feel alone in this. I thought I was crazy and then so many raised their hands and said “me too!”
Prayers that you find the healing you need and you can go back to living again! ♥️🙏🏻

Oh, I hadn’t thought about withdrawals. I just wanted off this stuff. I will try to get hold of my doctor.

Best of luck! If you are taking for neuropathy, try B complex. It’s starting to work for me. The natural stuff takes a bit longer but I feel like me!
